Setting up 2-FA
An easy-to-follow tutorial on how to set up 2-FA protection on your account for Crunchbits' virtualization platform
Why should you set up 2-FA on your metal account?
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection to your Virt account. Even if someone obtains your password through data breaches, phishing attempts, or other means, they still cannot access your account without the second authentication code from your phone or an authenticator app.
With full server access, bad actors can steal sensitive data, delete critical files, or encrypt your data, and demand ransom. When you set up 2FA, even if your password is compromised attackers still can't gain the administrative privileges needed to destroy your infrastructure.
How to set up 2-FA on Virt?
1. Go into your account settings
Start by going to https://virt.crunchbits.com, and logging in. Then click on the Account button.

Then enter the Two-factor Authentication tab.

2. Activate 2-FA on your account
To do this, scan the QR code [1] presented on that page with your preferred 2-FA application, and then enter the code into the box below [2].

Afterward, click on the Activate App Based TOTP

3. Save the backup codes in a safe place
Start by clicking on the Backup codes button.

Then save the codes that it shows in a safe place. These codes can be used to disable 2-FA in case you've lost access to your 2-FA application.
